From Lisa From England, sent on 22 June 2004 We've just booked up to stay at the new Fiesta Hotel in Sunny Beach. I know the building was only complete this month, but I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who's already visited or seen it. |

From Alex From Serbia, sent on 21 June 2004 Hello everyone, greetings from the democratic Serbia! First, I must congratulate our neighbor, Bulgaria, for making such a big progress towards joining the EU. It is expected that Bulgaria will join the EU in 2007. Wonderful! Congratulations to the Bulgarian people. I went to Sunny Beach last year, and I will go again this year, in July. I must say - it's wonderful! Even the 2 star hotels are ok - clean sheets, friendly staff, shower, balcony - no TV, who needs a TV anyway, on a holiday... Most of the 2 star hotels were built in the communist era. But, the 4 and 5 star hotels are breathtaking. You will find everything you need in Sunny Beach - clubs, bars, great cocktails, long sandy beaches, supermarkets with all the goodies from the West, casinos, cheap CDs - they are pirated but the quality is completely okay- hurry up and get them before Bulgaria joins the EU, he he... Lots of things to see and buy. Wonderful food, friendly people. If you have children, they will also have plenty of fun. Nobody can get bored - children, young people, married couples, old people - there is something for everyone to enjoy. The prices are very nice. Apart from Sunny Beach, another mega popular resort is Golden Sands. Also, if you are in Sunny Beach, don't forget to visit nearby Nessebar - a bus goes there every 15 minutes, a wonderful historic place with a fortress, old churches, charming little streets and cafes and souvenirs. In short, those that say they did not have a great time in Sunny Beach - they have a problem!Sunny Beach is a wonderful place. The Western tourists from Britain, Germany, Sweden... can see the Balkan spirit, warm and friendly people and excellent cuisine. And, what a nice surprise, during my stay, I did not see a single American there :) P.S. Those who wish not to try excellent Bulgarian cuisine (lots of meat and spices) can enjoy eating at McDonald's :( but, they don't know what they are missing. P.P.S. The sun is scorchingly hot so take care. Also, the exchange offices, which are on every corner, will rip you off, so it's best to change money in hotels, not on the streets. Enjoy your stay in Bulgaria, believe me, it's a wonderful place for a holiday! |

From Michael Ross From England, sent on 21 June 2004 Well what can I say, we arrived home late last night, and felt compelled to write as soon as we could, it's now 10 o'clock Monday morning. Sunny Beach is a must for everyone, before I arrived I really didn’t know what to expect. My Girlfriend and I are 27 & 29 years old, no children, yet (I should say fiancée, we got engaged whilst we were there ahhhh) it’s the cleanest place I’ve visited, the friendliest and by far the cheapest. Within 1 day of being there, we both said we’d be coming back next year, but not for 1 week, but for 2. Our Hotel was the Sever Yug, now known as the Polylusi. It was a 3* established hotel, having been built around 15 years ago. In all of the hotels in Sunny Beach you have, a very clean hotel / room, a big pool, pool bar, normal bar, cocktail bar, restaurant, hairdressers, manicures, pedicures, massages, need I go on. It’s around £5 or 15 Lev for any of the pampering treatments and that’s including the tip. Most of the big 4* / 5* hotels are on the beach front, 20m from the sea. Next year we’ll go to the 4* Victoria, I’ve been to Miami and you don’t even see hotels like that over there (And think how much they cost $$$$’s) One you must see is the new Victoria Palace a 5* that is unreal. Which sounds ideal, as it has a Spa complex and £100,000 Mercs and Ferraris outside (It’s where the Russian Mafia stay) so you feel like a King or Queen, but it has 1000 rooms, say 2 per room that’s a lot of people. It would be too big for me, I don’t think they’d have 2000 sun beds, would they. I wouldn’t feel that we’d really be anywhere else other then a village inside a resort, if that makes sense? As a holiday for us is about the people and the resort, not a hotel you’d feel obliged to stay in 24 hrs a day. If you do like that, then there are loads of fully inclusive places. One word of warning if you are staying in the Palace. We meet a lot of English that had seen the spec and paid a lot of money to stay there. But it comes back to the same old thing, non established hotels that had problems with hot water, as in there wasn’t any. A couple who were on their honeymoon, who booked the wedding suite and ended up with a single bed, she ended up in tears and were never seen again. Be aware of the new hotels, they may look fantastic, but dig deeper as you may not find it’s all that it’s cracked up to be. But don’t let that put you off, I’m sure none of you will stay in a hotel like that. I think the Victoria 4* is the one, it’s a couple of years old and looks the biz. It’s not a building site as some people would tell you, OK there is work going on, but most have been finished now. The beach is very, very long, so you’ll always have somewhere to go. As with everything in Sunny Beach, it’s spotless, with loads of groovy bars and restaurants close to hand at very cheap prices. 1 beer = 1 Lev current exchange is 2.80 Lev to the £ the most expensive meal I had was 13 Lev and that was the Mixed Sizzler in the Jupiter restaurant a must try. You can’t buy the meat in England for that, and this was cooked, with veg, served to your table and was the most I spent, so it’s cheap, very cheap. If you like shopping, take an empty suitcase, I mean it. OK all of the shops sell fake things. But they are the best fakes in the world and that’s including Thailand. Gucci glasses, handbags, football tops, trainers etc etc. You’ll see them selling DVD’s and CD’s everywhere. 6 DVD’s for 100 Lev, and they all work on English players and are all colour with English sound and are perfect. I bought 12 and tried them all last night. From the latest Harry Potter to Shrek 2 to well what ever you like. BTW I don’t think they’re even in the Cinema here. Everything comes from Russia and the Mafia in particular, but don’t worry, Russians can’t get a visa in Bulgaria, so you don’t see 7 ft henchmen walking around. It’s a family resort, not spoilt by 18 year olds on cheap drink, and that’s even whilst Euro 2004 is on. Try the Casino 1 lev minimum bet (Crazy) I’ve been to many bars and clubs all over the world and if you want to try the real funky looking ones which are twice the price as anywhere else, you won’t be disappointed, we’ve been to some of the best in world and some don’t come close to the ones in Sunny Beach. Enough of going on and on, you’ll love it if you’re thinking of booking up, just do it, how can you go wrong. Sunny Beech is the best resort in the world and the cheapest – Enough said |
