We stayed at the Hotel "Sokol" in the last two weeks of August 04, the hotel was clean and the room was small but ok for the two of us, the hotel was mainly for the German tourist, as is the resort of Sunny Beach !. The hotel has Two small lifts that only hold four persons at a time, we were on the fith floor and waited so long for the lift to arrive that we walked down the stairs but got the lift going back up (sometimes, if you stay higher than the sixth floor, you may have a long wait for the lifts to arrive, and when they do it's potluck whether you go up or down. The beach was ok but had bits of litter here and there and cigarettes stubs everywhere, the water was clear and safe for kids to play. The so called "Life Guards" on the beach are more likely to ask if you want Coffee or Tea etc than looking to save lives, (Two Coffee's 8 Levs, and make sure you have the correct money because they very seldom give you change), there are also people selling fruit, fish, ice cream, dounuts etc on the beach. There are lots of shops selling the same things and once you've seen one then you've seen em all !.
Would i go back again................. NO !
but some people on our flight home liked the place and would go back.

Just returned from 2wks in Sunny Beach. Stayed in the Hotel Trakia Plaza. Hotel was spot on for a 4*, only gripe is having to pay for the kids to use the pool slides and sun beds!!! Nothing for the kids to do in the hotel if the weather is bad though(can happen we had thunder & lightening) Bars are open 24/7 reccomend Dreams coctail bar and the Bromma Bar (bromma 1lv, about 37p,for rum and coke + buy one get on free in happy hour). Beaches the best I have seen in a long time with plenty water sports. Very lively, definately go again. Beware tho loads of building works at the moment to cope with demand. Recommend the lazy day boat trip

We have just got back from two weeks at the hotel flamingo in Sunny Beach.Firstly a warning if you are takinhg more tha 200 cigarettes into Bulgaria, the customs at Bourgas are like hawks but are also extremely corrupt. So if you get gaught be prepared to toss over Ј20-Ј30 as a bribe to keep your fags.
The Hotel Flamingo is very clean and the rooms are a good size. Pool area is quote good with a decent bar and breakfast is OK, but there are a lot of very good and extremly cheap eating places minutes from the hotel.
The resort is very lively with a good mix of Clubs, Bars and some very nice restaruants. The food is of good quality and the cheapest I have ever eaten. For a family of four, not once did I pay more than Ј20 for a full meal with drinks and desserts (thats for the four of us). Some restaraunts desreve a special mention, the China House behind the Globus was amazing, the National Steakhouse in the south part of the resort was 1st Class, Jupiters in the centre was also 1st Class and The White Lion by the Hotel Flamingo was also great.
The prices of drinks, ice creams etc was the cheapest I can rembember.
You can get seriosuly drunk on a tenner here.
Some of the clothes (really good copies) are also cheap so did buy too much holiday gear before you go.
The beach is lovely and clean and the people are friendly.
If I have one small criticism of Sunny Beach is that there is not much enetertainemnt for families with children in the evening. But on the basis that I came back from Bulgaria with a wallet full of cash, it was a small price to pay.
We will definitely go back.
