We stayed at the Breeze apartments Sunny Beach. The apartments were very nice, a lot of these apartments were privatley own.

The people were great and the food was fantastic. We met a lot of nice people.

The only complaint was that we booked with bulkan holidays to fly from Humberside airport on the understanding that it was a direct flight. We took off from Humberside and flew to Bristol airport and stayed there for one and half hrs without getting off the plane and the same on the way back.
We did ask if this was a direct flight and the answer was yes. Please just be aware of this to those people who like myself are not great flyers.

Been to sunny beach for the last 2yrs & booked for next year. Love the place & the people are very friendly. Everything is cheap & its good for adults & kids alike. Nessebar is a great place to visit when you are there. Beach is clean & so is the sea. You may get some rain & this is heavy. But it soon clears up. Few drunks Brits/Germans but not to many have discovered the place yet. For this we are grateful.

I have just read Jo's comments about Sunny Beach and have to say that I totally disagree!! Some people will always go away on holiday just to nit pick and compare it with other places and not enjoy their holiday - stick to the Costa's or Marmaris in future if all you want to do is get lashed and go clubbing every night and eat chips and fry-ups every day.
We spent a week in Sunny Beach 10-17 Sept which we booked as a last minute holiday having been to Cyprus earlier in the year. I have to say that out of all the resorts/countries I have been to this has got to be one of the best. I went with an open mind - was a bit worried on the flight out there as it was like a pensioners day out on that aircraft - just a sea of grey heads! Things were ok once there though. Many of the hotels are literally on the beach and central to bars & restaurants. The beaches are very clean and the sea is also clean. I must admit I did see a few jelly fish myself but it didn't stop me getting in the water and they looked dead to me anyway and weren't even in the sea but on the beach. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants around at a fraction of the cost of western prices (Eastern Europe always has good quality and tasty food as they don't add preservatives and crap like we do in the West). Please note that Bulgaria is no use if you are vegetarian as it is a very meat rich diet there so spending a fortnight there, vegetarioans may find the cuisine monotonous. The locals are friendly and try their best to speak English, though it has to be understood that it is a relatively new resort for Brits when compared to places like Spain and it's islands etc, so a lot of the older locals probably speak Russian as a second language. Besides which, it doesn't harm to learn a few words of the lingo yourself anyway just our of sheer courtesy. The bars are dirt cheap - 1 Lv (about 35p) for a lager and 5lvs for a strong cocktail (about 5 times better than in the UK). Smokers will love the 50p-a-packet for cigarettes as well!! I recommend the Avenue for cocktails as they do buy one get one free from 10am-12pm and I only needed a few of their cocktails to get me going! Most bars close at 1pm, which is probably why certain types won't like it there as that sort of "tourist" is more suited to shrivelling in the sun all day nursing a hangover, going out at 10pm and binge drinking as well as knocking back the free shots, which are actually a mix of cheap local spirits similar to petrol, then heading out of a club at 5am flashing their bits on the street, lashed up, acting like monkeys in a zoo. Another good point about Sunny Beach is that a lot of the bars are staffed by locals, so you don't get some 18 year old chav from Romford on his year out standing on the street handing out flyers with a promise of 10 free shots with your first drink providing you go into his empty bar which is uninvitingly thumping out trashy music!!!

Also another good venue is a bar/fun pub called Maximus as they have an act on each night and entry is free.

Fish lovers I recommend Captain Cook restaurant - we had a two course meal with lagers, very good quality fish (you chose your own piece fresh) for less than a tenner for the lot. Another good place is The Happy Duck for both food and a good night out.

The thing I liked most about Sunny Beach was the mix of people: it is not targetted at one sector like Ayia Napa or Ibiza, but has a mix of young, families and seniors who are all out for a good holiday. Weather was a bit overcast one day when I was there but soon cleared. I think staying somewhere where the bars close at 1am helps as you didn't get louts in the early hours causing commotion and jumping into pools and I never saw any groups of single sex holiday makers all the time I was there. There are an excellent variety of bars in Sunny Beach, many of which are al-fresco and airy and all have different themes and decor. A lot more variety than western resorts.

One bit of advice for travellers would be to use ATM's to withdraw cash as although the kiosks offer a good exchange rate, their commission can be very high. There are plenty of ATM's along the main strip. Also, a lot of the shops never seemed to have change, so make sure you keep change when you get it as they have toilet attendents in Bulgaria whereby you pay 0.50Lv for paper towels (this is an old custom dating back to the Soviet days).

I will definately go back to Bulgaria next year but earlier in the season. Sorry Greece, Spain and the Canaries but you're not a patch on Bulgaria!!!

Please email me if you are thinking of going to Bulgaria and have any questions.
Cheers
