From Sylvia Fitzpatrick From UK, sent on 12 September 2005 Had a great time in Sunny Beach, it is a lovely HUGE place. Just returned from 2 weeks (Aug/Sept 05) at the Hotel Smolian in Sunny Beach. The hotel is very clean, the beds/towels were changed VERY regular, and the room cleaned properly - much better than at previous holiday hotels I have stayed. Reception staff and 'bell boy's' were very friendly, but I feel a LOT of the other staff INCLUDING THE OWNER and MANAGER of the hotel could a least SMILE at the residents and not sneer at them like they were dirt!!!! Also we were treated very poorly by the management of the hotel when a wedding was taking place there. The WHOLE of the dining room/bar was taken up by the wedding party. WE, the PAYING guest's, were TOLD we have TO SIT OUTSIDE BY THE POOL FOR DINNER and ANY DRINKS IN THE EVENING???!!!?? At this time of year it is VERY COLD in the evening, but the management and staff were not interested, they were too busy enjoying themselves at the wedding!!!!!!!!!! I will return to Sunny Beach, but NOT TO THE SMOLIAN. On another note PLEASE TAKE CARE CROSSING THE ROAD FROM THE HOTEL, you take your life in your hands..........even at traffic light controlled crossings...beware! |

From James From UK, sent on 10 August 2005 Just come back from 2 weeks in Bulgaria at the hotel Smolian. Really nice place, it's only just opened so everything is clean and fresh. As commented before, there is an unfinished hotel next door, but the good thing is, nobody's working on it (didn't see any building work anywhere for that matter) so it doesn't disturb you. The only gripe is that you're just the other side of the main road that goes through Sunny Beach, which you have to cross to get anywhere - there is a pedestrian crossing at the hotel entrance, but cars don't stop for crossings like in the UK! The great thing is, all the facilities are included (pool/loungers etc) which might not sound like much, but we got talking to a couple staying at the Trakia Plaza opposite, which charged for use of these facilities - which doesn't seem fair when you've already paid to go! All in all, it's a great place, and you can't fault Sunny Beach itself, hot, sunny and very cheap! Enjoy... |
