From PETER BURNETT From SCOTLAND, sent on 22 August 2007 Sozopol is one of the most attractive towns in Bulgaria and indeed in the whole Black Sea-Aegean region. However, on the basis of developments in Bulgaria to date, one can be excused for being scared of what developers may get up to, with their supposed "improvements"... There is a very real danger of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. And when you talk of major architects, what do you mean? There do seem to be a number of quite good architects in Bulgaria itself. The problem, however, is that there aren't enough clients who know how to employ an architect. It takes more than throwing cash and caprices at a problem... In Sozopol, discretion must be of the essence. Perhaps architects should take a look at places like Positano and Amalfi in Italy or several unspoilt seaside towns in Greece or, say, Croatia. |
