This summer foreign and Bulgarian fans proclaimed Kavarna the rock capital of Bulgaria. They would be very happy if all the mayors followed the example of Kavarna's mayor Tzonko Tzonev. He excelled even the bravest expectations of music lovers by organizing a series of concerts of some of the most eminent world bands. Yesterday at the Kaliakra stadium the favourite of several generations of Bulgarians Deep Purple played. The 38-year-old mayor is crazy about hard rock. He has graduated in Law from the Sofia St. Kliment Ohridski University. Kavarna is his birthplace and he wants that the whole universe learnt the name of his favourite town. We expect 100,000 tourists during the season, mayor Tsonko Tsonev says - Mr. Tsonev, it's hard to believe - Deep Purple in Kavarna and not in Sofia, Plovdiv or Varna for example? - And why not. We have invited them. My conception about the development of the town is based on festival and concert tourism. We aim at attracting as many guests as possible. Tourists will visit Kavarna and the northern Black Sea coast not only because of the beautiful and unique nature, or because of the rich archaeological sites, but because of the grandiose cultural events organized successfully by the municipality. This is a widely applied practice in many resorts in Western Europe. - You said that after their concert in Skopje Deep Purple have been in a hurry to come to Bulgaria. Did they really spend a day on the beach? - Yes, they have probably heard of the wonderful Bulgarian Black Sea beaches. Why not seeing and enjoying them, too? (He laughs). The most interesting thing is that world famous band Nazareth after their concert on May 6 when the Day of Kavarna was celebrated booked hotel rooms because they wanted to spend their vacation here. This will happen at the end of August during the Week of Sea in Kavarna. - Do you have plans for the next summer? - Next year Kavarna will become part of the world chain Monsters of Rock. Shows are held in Germany, Brazil, the USA and England. World stars like Iron Maiden, White Snake and Motor Head will sing at this large-scale rock festival. On September 5 and 6 in the Festival Complex in Varna and with the co-operation of the two municipalities the famous Lord of the Dance Irish ensemble will hold a show.
