Ally and Maggie also go to the Korona so no doubt they will be around later to give you the ins and outs of it. Can't help you on Golden Sands as I have never been there and not a lot of people on the board go there. I hope you and the family enjoy SB. JJ ![]() |

Hotel Korona was great once again (agree with you Lorraine it maybe is time for a wee facelift at the hotel) but we really enjoyed our stay and had a great maid - couldn't do enought for us. I particularly like the part that said great once again and really enjoyed our stay Think a lot of hotels in Sunny Beach could do with a little make over here or there. JJ ![]() |

(---.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com) posts : 5245 Date : 08-21-10 08:44 Jimmyjames look at my post I never said any hotel were s**t, having a young daughter it doesnt inspire confidence in the food at the Korona whenthe scrambled egg were raw, there was glass around the pool area, if that makes me a snob so be it, but when I go on holiday I dont leave my brains behind, it also strikes me as peculiar as when some of us posters post anything that the faux moderators [who now seem to be in charge of what I always thought was called a disscusion board,] dont seem to like our views, has this forum now turned into a dictatership but perhaps Im going to be labelled a Mickey ![]() |

(---.14-1.cable.virginmedia.com) posts : 207 Date : 08-21-10 14:56 Jimmy, I've stayed in the Korona twice and booking up to go again next year. The staff are friendly, the maids have always been great to us, the rooms are fine (stayed in worse, stayed in better). We were B&B and I found the food to be good, I heard evening meals were not so good, but it is very cheap to eat out and that is part of our evening out anyway. The sunbeds are hard but for about 7lev u can buy a cheapo lilo (we splashed out for the 15lev ones lol) Unlike other hotels the sunbeds are free! The beach is a very short walk away as are lots of pubs and restuarants. Its not noisy at night even though there are lots of things roundabout. Its at the southern end of SB, 15 mins walk to town centre, or little train goes up there. I liked a walk to the centre but preferred staying at the southern end. I'm sure you will have a brill time. Enjoy yourself and if you are in the Corner Pub say hello to Anna for me lol xxxx |

(---.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com) posts : 5245 Date : 08-22-10 11:09 perhaps I should have taken Helens advise as to a hotel Hi Pauline Its Helen, Welshlady! I see you're looking for one night accomodation in Sunny Beach. The Hotel Atol is great. Its clean and well funished and the staff are brilliant. Its right in the centre, close to the market area, just by the bus stop and a taxi rank. It is more of a business hotel eg no pool etc but for one night it would be excellent. Breakfast is served in the restaurant where you just order whatever you want eg full breakfast, omellettes, ham and eggs , toast etc. We have stayed there many times and cannot fault it. I am friendly with the owner ELKA. Her e.mail is zora.atol@gmail.com Mention my name if you like. Helenx |

(---.14-1.cable.virginmedia.com) posts : 207 Date : 08-22-10 18:49 jimmy, in my opinion its a good hotel, just booked today for 3rd year in korona so it cant be that bad, i cant eat certain foods and the food at breakfast was fine for me, caters for everyone. beach was about a 2 min walk, the beds at the beach were 7 lev, parasols 7 lev too, sunbeds at Korona were free, as i said b4, u can buy lilo at the wee shop just outside Korona for a few lev, in other hotels we stayed in they were 4 lev. I found it was a great location, not too busy not too quiet, wee walk from main strip, plenty to do round and about. I hope u have as good a holiday as we have had over the years. If u r in corner pub please say hello to anna from ian and maggie Am sure u will enjoy yourself. xxxxx ps in that area, the Harp was my favourite restuarant, followed closely by the House, the Landsdown, the National, Ians was the Cod Father..favourite kebab (lovely pizza too) just beside the House ...cant mind the name .. began with a K! |

(---.10-1.cable.virginmedia.com) posts : 7906 Date : 08-28-10 18:15 As a regular visitor to SB, twice a year for many years, we always stay at the Korona and have already booked again for next May, also looking at going for 3 weeks next August. I feel that for this reason I can give an HONEST, CONSISTENT and FAIR review of this hotel. Yes the sunbeds are hard, but as Maggie states lilos are cheap but we've always had ones given to us by leaving holiday makers. Plastic glasses are supplied by the pool bar and I have never seen broken glass around the pool area. We have never eaten the breakfast at the Korona because it wasn't to our taste, some enjoy it others don't, PD is very restricted what he eats so we always, as I have mentioned on here many times, eaten breakfast at the White house nearby. Can I just mention here that the kebaps from 'Imbiss' across the road from the Korona are fantastic. The Korona hotel still continues to please us but think its time to upgrade their rooms. The above quote was copied and pasted from my report after our holiday in May to which another regular visitor there agreed with me. Over the years hotels do need upgrading to keep in line with the newer hotels that are and have been built recently. After our second visit earlier this month I stand by my opinion that an upgrade is needed but the hotel is still great. I must mention the friendly and hardworking maids, especially Gigi who has cleaned our room for us many times, the long suffering bar staff who we kept very busy, Nazdrave to Violina and Veronika. The security staff are very effective, we had to complain about some young, noisy people on the balcony above us at 5.30am, within 5 minutes the matter was dealt with. There is no entertainment at the Korona but for us this means no noise from blaring music etc, keeping us awake, ideal if you have children too, plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. We have very high standards, very particular rather than fussy, 'the Korona hotel still continues to please' and we hope to continue staying there for many years to come, any more information or questions, please ask. Enjoy your hols, wherever you're staying. ![]() |

(109.255.166.---) posts : 12 Date : 09-04-10 16:00 I have just caught up with this thread. Jimmy James asked for information on this hotel. For several years this hotel has been used by contributors to this forum. Satisfaction has always been expressed, especially by Parkiebear and her husband, who are very frequent visitors, along with other members, like Ally& Maggie. Pauline stayed in this hotel for ONE night and had ONE breakfast. Therefore, Pauline's account could not be a balanced or fair account, after such a short stay. Pauline states that the breakfast was "inedible". Those of us who are frequent visitors to Sunny Beach and other resorts, know that the hotel food does not compare to that offered by the hundreds of restaurants and cafes throughout the resorts. Indeed, Parkiebear has always said that she and her husband always breakfast in the White House, preferring the menu there. If the scrambled egg was uncooked, then it should have been returned and the matter reported to the staff member on duty, and another dish chosen. Indeed an undercooked, or badly cooked dish can happen in any restaurant or hotel, in any country, including our own. In the case of a set menu, I would simply return the offending dish, or in the case of a buffet, I would report it to a staff member on duty.If uncooked scrambled egg was on the menu that day, it does not necessarily mean, it was so every other day. Other criticisms centred on "broken glas" by the bar and the pool!! Again this could happen anywhere, and I am sure the offending glass was removed by bar staff once they became aware of this. "Hard sunbeds" is hardly relevant when they are free. As so many hotels charge for sunbed use, and the costs can mount up for a family, over a few weeks stay, it is surely a great advantage that the Korona does not charge for their use. Indeed, lilos can be cheaply bought to put on top of them, if they are too hard. So Pauline, I think your comments on this hotel were both unfair and unbalanced. Your comments on the food even annoyed Jimmy James, as he said he is a chef, and so is well qualified to judge the standard of food on offer. (You say you are also a chef now? Pardon me, I thought you were last a care assistant!) I do not understand your reference to "faux moderators" on the forum. You are entitled to your opinions, and to express them, which you readily do,but with this entitlement there is a subsequent responsibility to be fair and balanced. You were not in your criticism of this hotel. On reading your posts, I think you had another agenda, perhaps a grievance with some of the regular users of this hotel and forum or its moderators. (---.10-1.cable.virginmedia.com) posts : 7906 Date : 09-04-10 16:49 Hi Irish Moll, welcome to the board and thankyou for your comments. I have always given a fair, honest and unbiased review of the hotel Korona, having stayed there many, many times. I made a comment in May that the hotel did now need an upgrade, to which several others who stay at the Korona agreed with, I did discuss this with the hotel manager and she thanked me for my comments and the information would be passed on. As for the broken glass around the pool, once again I state that the glasses served from the pool bar are plastic, any breakages of other glasses bought to the pool area from the main bar surely should be removed or reported to the hotel staff, at least any responsible person would do this. We shall continue to stay at the korona,we've already booked for next May, it still continues to please us, that is our comment, not one thats been copied and pasted. As for any ulterior motives by some posters on this thread . . . . . . . who cares. I answered a question by Jimmyjames and I hope my post helped him, thats what I'm here for. Once again thankyou IM for your post. Your comments made very interesting reading. ![]() |
