Smoking in the seafront area of the coastal city of Burgas is banned. The whole promenade is declared a no smoking area. No smoking signs will be mounted along the promenade, which will warn the tourists against smoking while strolling along the seafront alley. The decision was taken by the Burgas Municipality, the Bulgarian Red Cross Organization and the Regional Inspectorate for Protection and Control of Public Health. The no-smoking-at-seaside initiative was occasioned by the World No Tobacco Day May 31, sources from the Burgas Municipality explained. For the time being, however, no sanctions are provided against the tourists, who disregard the no-smoking signs. The activists of the Bulgarian Red Cross Organization will be the only curb to the smokers. They will tour around the pubs in the coastal city and will offer the smokers to exchange their packs of cigarettes for a sticker, which explains how harmful smoking is. A special consulting room will be opened in the Regional Inspectorate for Protection and Control of Public Health building two days before May 31. There, a team of experts will consult for free all those willing to give up smoking.
