Wastewater Treatment Plant in Balchik, Black Sea

A tie-in between Slovenia's Primorie and Hydroengineering has started the construction of a 3.87 mln euro wastewater treatment plant in Balchik, on Bulgaria's Northern Black Sea coast. The facility, due for completion by mid-'08, will service 10,000 city residents and 9,000 tourists. EU's ISPA program has provided 75% of the project funding. Bulgaria plans to build 60 wastewater treatment plants in cities with population of over 10,000. At the moment, Bulgaria treats only 30-35% of domestic waste water.
